Modi government's new labor law: The new labor law will change a lot, including employee working hours, annual leave
The new system proposes a maximum of 12 hours of work: while the weekly limit is set at 8 hours: new employees will no longer have to wait 30 days to be eligible for leave: 20 out of 8 leave per year will be carried forward: while the remaining 15 leave will be paid in cash The Modi government has come up with this new labor code with the aim of reducing the friction between companies over matters including work, salary, holidays.
It is proposed to do a maximum of 12 hours after the implementation of the new labor code. However, the weekly limit has been fixed at 8 hours. That is, the new system allows you to work 4 days and get 5 days off, if you work 12 hours a day. Also, the hours of overtime have been increased from 30 hours to 12 hours in a quarter. This allows the employee to work overtime on weekends and earn extra money.
In the new system, only 3 days work and 3 days leave ... that sounds very good, but the reality is a little different. The 3 days you will work, it will be 12-15 hours of work. Working late can have an effect on your health. Often then companies can ask for overtime. Even if you get a few extra bucks, your workload will increase. Your health may also deteriorate.
The new Labor Code has also undergone a major overhaul. Until now, a new employee had to work for at least 30 days to be eligible for leave, but now any employee will be eligible for leave in only 150 days. That means you will now have to wait a few days to reach the eligibility limit for the leave. This move by the government is a great relief to the employees. Under the new Labor Code, it has been made mandatory to encash holidays at the end of every year. That is, at the end of each year, if you have 3 days of leave left, then 30 of them will be carried forward, the government has kept the number of holidays as before in the new system. That is, you will get 1 day off every 30 working days. Also, the number of leave to be carried forward has not changed and it has been kept at 20. However, the holiday provision, which was applicable only to the manufacturing industry, will now apply to all sectors.
