There is a story in the Puranas behind Lord Ganesha being dear to the laddus. According to which once the sage Atri and his wife invited Lord Ganesha to their place for a meal. When Ganesh ji went to his place for food, Anasuya served food for him. Anasuya used to trust food, where Ganesha used to finish the food in a hurry. When this happened again and again, Anusuya got worried that it would not be good if Ganesha's stomach was not filled. The guest invited to the house should have a full stomach. When Anasuya became very upset, she came to mind a solution. Anasuya thought that after serving something sweet after the meal, Lord Ganesha's hunger would be quenched. In such a situation, she brought a plate of modak in front of Ganesh ji.

When Lord Ganesha ate the laddus, he jumped with joy. Sweet-sweet laddus dissolve easily in their mouth and they eat it with pleasure.
