IT notice to Anil Ambani for keeping black money in Swiss bank

The Income Tax Department has issued a notice to Anil Ambani for keeping secret funds in two Swiss bank accounts. According to the tax department's allegation, Anil has evaded tax of Rs.420 crore by keeping more than Rs.814 crore benami funds in two Swiss bank accounts. The Income Tax department has booked Anil Ambani for 'willful' tax evasion and said he deliberately did not disclose his foreign bank accounts and other financial interests to the Indian tax authorities. Ambani has been served a show cause notice in this regard this month. The department said that action can be taken against them under sections 50 and 51 of black money. It may be mentioned that under the Black Money (Concealed Foreign Income and Assets) Imposition of Tax Act, 2015, the maximum punishment is 10 years imprisonment and fine. The Income Tax Department has asked Anil Ambani to respond to the notice by August 31. Ambani's office has not yet responded to queries raised on the matter. The tax authorities have accused Ambani of tax evasion by keeping benami assets abroad during the assessment period 2012-13 to 2019-20. According to the notice, "Tax officials found that Ambani was an 'economic contributor and beneficial owner' of an entity called 'Diamond Trust' in the Bahamas and another company, 'Northern Atlantic Trading Limited'.
