Canada Asks Indian Students Not to Start Working Before Course, Issues Guidelines

Toronto, dated 13: Canadian government has issued new guidelines for Indian students and asked them not to start working before starting their course abroad. In a recent tweet, the Canadian High Commission said, 'You can start working only when your Study program starts.'

In addition, students traveling to Canada this winter will have to undergo verification as soon as they enter a foreign country, with a Border Service officer verifying their documents. Be prepared to show that your DLI has allowed you to come late or that you have received a deferral, the official tweet read.

Students need to be aware that while some studies allow you to work in Canada, you can only start working there once your study program has started, not before.

The notice comes after a large number of students were found to have submitted fake documents for study visas abroad.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has also issued an advisory for Indian students studying and living in Canada after the recent rise in hate crimes against Indians and Hindus in particular.

Stating that 'incidents of hate crime, communal violence and anti-India activities have increased sharply in Canada', the Ministry of External Affairs has asked Indian citizens and especially students to register on the official websites of the Indian Embassy. So that in case of any emergency the government can be contacted the fastest.

India on Sunday condemned the vandalism at the recently unveiled park of Swashri Bhagavad Gitakhanam in Brampton, Canada and urged the authorities to investigate and take immediate action against the perpetrators of the crime. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown confirmed the vandalism at the park on Sunday and said Canada has a "zero tolerance" attitude for such attacks.

Canada is one of the top choices for Indian students studying abroad. Every year lakhs of Indian students go abroad to study. In 2019, more than 5.86 lakh Indians went abroad for studies.

By June 2022, more than 2.45 lakh students have gone abroad for study. According to government data, besides popular countries like USA, UK, Canada and Australia, new places including Germany, Philippines, Russia and Singapore are emerging as study centers of choice for Indian students.
