Yesterday On 18th June-2020, the extent of Surat Municipality was expanded to include 31 villages and 2 municipalities in the city.
While the new areas were given city status, as the locals demanded exemption from toting tax collection as full basic facilities were not created for two years, the municipal rulers announced tax exemption for the newly incorporated areas after the Sami elections, which will directly benefit around 1.40 lakh families. The standing committee of the municipality has proposed that during the financial year 2022-23, 100 square meters means 1075
Residential properties up to square feet will get exemption from water charges, sewerage charges and solid waste charges of around 15 crores.
Standing committee chairman Paresh Patel said that the work of creating basic facilities in 31 villages and 2 municipal areas of the 27 gram panchayats included in the city is in progress. It does not seem appropriate to collect property tax from the residents until the exercise of connecting these entire areas with the city's water network and drainage network is completed quickly. In this regard, the locals and representatives often demanded to give tax exemption until 100 percent facility is provided.

Sachin and Kansad Municipalities are included in Surat Municipal Corporation. While Segwa Syadla, Vaswari, Gothan, Umra, Bharthana, Kosad, Pardi Kanda, Talangpore, Umber, Kandi Paliya, Bhatpore, Bhatha, Ichapore, Bhesan, Asarma, Khatodara, Valak, Velanja, Abrama, Bhada, Harsh, Khadsad, Laskana, Sania Hemad, Pasodara, Kumbharia and Saroli gram panchayats have been included.
