Maharashtra political crisis: Uddhav Thackeray resigned as Maharashtra Chief Minister on Wednesday night. He made the announcement with emotion while addressing the public via Facebook Live. But, at around 9.10 pm on the first night, the Supreme Court delivered a landmark judgment saying that we are not closing the floor test, we are giving notice, whatever the outcome will be will be ours. Final judgment. The next hearing is set for July 11. Speculation of his resignation intensified after the Supreme Court's decision, which came true exactly 30 minutes later.

This decision of the Supreme Court has changed the whole picture of Maharashtra politics. Shortly after the decision was taken, Uddhav Thackeray resigned as CM. With the resignation, the way for the BJP to return to power has been cleared. The Shiv Sena opposed the floor test, while the Shinde faction and the governor's counsel argued in favor of the floor test.
Presenting its argument in favor of banning the floor test, the Shiv Sena said the floor test should be postponed till a decision is taken on the disqualification of the MLAs. Shinde’s lawyer decides on the deputy speaker before deciding disqualification when protesting Steno, he can’t stop the floor test.

Shiv Sena's lawyer said either postpone the floor test or let a quick decision be taken on disqualifying the deputy speaker. Demanding a floor test, Shinde's lawyer said, "Avoiding the floor test by the chief minister is a sign of losing the majority. The court always conducts the floor test early." The Supreme Court has refused to stay the floor test after hearing arguments from both the parties. However, after Uddhav Thackeray's resignation, there will be no floor test.
