Hyderabad, dt. 12: A shocking case of sale of donkey meat has come to light in Andhra Pradesh. Some people in Andhra districts are eating donkey meat to cure health related problems. Shocked to hear... but this is a fact. As per the demand, people are selling the donkey meat charging a hefty price. Taking notice of this matter, the police have taken a major action in Bapatla of Andhra Pradesh. 7 accused have also been arrested in this case.
Andhra Pradesh Police seized more than 400 kg of donkey meat from Bapatla district on Monday. The police have found different body parts of the slain donkeys, including their heads, legs and tails. They have arrested 7 people under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960. Meet Usher of PETA India said, Donkeys are social and sensitive animals but they are being slaughtered for meat in Andhra Pradesh. He appealed to people to provide information about illegal donkey slaughter.
Let us tell you that donkey slaughter and meat trade is illegal in India. People involved in this incident can be jailed for up to five years or fined or both. Donkey slaughter is a violation of Section 429 of the IPC. Consumption of donkey meat is punishable under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
According to reports, donkey meat is eaten around the festival of Diwali in Krishna, 51m Godavari and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh. Eating donkey meat is believed to relieve back pain and asthma. Many people believe that donkey meat increases sexual power. Donkey meat is sold at Rs 600 per kg.
