Gujarat: Army rescues 2-year-old boy from 300 feet deep borewell in just 40 minutes
AHMEDABAD: In just 40 minutes, Army personnel rescued a child from a 300-foot-deep borewell in Gujarat's Surendranagar district. In a small village in Dhangadhra, 2-year-old Shivam fell into a 300-foot-deep borewell while playing last night. Upon learning of the incident, the local fire brigade was called to the rescue. A team of army, police and health officials rushed to the spot and rescued the child.
The incident took place around 8 pm on Tuesday when a boy named Shivam was playing on a farm in Dudapur village where his parents were working as laborers. A fire brigade team rushed to the spot as soon as the information was received, but the district officer sought the help of the Indian Army camp in view of the difficulty in the rescue operation and the seriousness of the matter. What was then, the army also quickly reached the spot.
The challenge for the army was because the borewell was too deep and its width too small. The water even reached the baby's head, but Shivam's cry could be heard. Indian Army soldiers hooked Manila with a rope and put it in the borewell, after a while Shivam's shirt got hooked and then slowly he was taken out. Everyone standing around was happy to see Shivam alive. Shivam is currently in good health and under observation at the hospital.
At 10.45pm the baby was pulled out of the borewell. The boy was then taken to the government hospital in Dhrangadhara city, from where he was referred to the district civil hospital for further treatment.
The girl's condition was reported to be stable. The rescue operation was completed 40 minutes after army, police and other officials arrived at the scene.
